Agar Art Workshop

Agar Art is a fun opportunity to learn about microbiology through painting with bacteria. In this workshop, agar petri-dishes serve as our canvas, and a unique bioluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) bacterium serves as our paint. See the attached flyer for previous agar art examples, as well as #AgarArt on Twitter & Instagram.
The workshop will be April 3, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm. As we are working with bacteria that need time to grow, we need to let our art incubate overnight. The second day of the workshop (April 4, 5:00pm) is when you can view your artwork and take pictures. The April 3 session is required; however, if you cannot make the second day, that’s OK, we can take pictures of your agar art for you.

If you have any questions regarding the workshop, please contact Dr. Michael Taveirne (metaveir@ncsu.edu).

Special Notes:

*This Workshop is only open to current NC State students, staff, and faculty
*You must be 18-years of age or older to participate
*Unfortunately, as we are working in a microbiology laboratory, those that have any health related issues (immunocompromised, taking immunosuppressive medications, etc.) will not be able to participate.
